About
I hold a BFA in Illustration from Rhode Island School of Design. I worked as a dimensional illustrator and comissioned textile artist in New York and Chicago. I earned an MS in Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design from the University of Rhode Island. I was a textile conservator restoring, conserving and documenting historic textile pieces, such as costume, oriental rugs, needlepoint and quilts, until moving to Clarksville, Tennessee twenty years ago.
My first teaching position was at New Providence Middle School in 2002. I earned an MAE in Curriculum and Instruction from Austin Peay State University. In 2009, I moved to Northwest High School. Teaching is my third and, by far, most rewarding career. I love art history and using technology to teach visual, cultural and textual literacy. My goal is to teach my students to think like artists, to be able to genearte ideas, be comfortable with different outcomes, to collaborate, revise and persist to become confident problem-solvers - and lifelong learners.
I am a textile artist; I create images with hand dyed, printed, appliqued and embroidered silk and wool. I also design and create theater sets, costumes and puppets. I am a member of National Art Education Association (NAEA & TAEA), The Customs House Museum and The Frist Centre for the Visual Arts. My hobbies include sewing and learning to play the violin. I have two sons, and a dog named Lolly.
