Welcome Letter
Dear Parent/Guardian and Student,
Welcome to the AP Art History course. This revised course promises to be both interesting and fast paced. Reviewing the syllabus and our expectations for the coming year will ensure the student, parent/guardian, and teacher are working as a team. This course is an academically driven course and will challenge you in various areas. It may at times seem demanding, yet such times will make your accomplishments more rewarding and fulfilling. Please take a few minutes to review the course syllabus attached. The course curriculum framework is based on ten content areas and twelve learning objects. These will enable you to develop the art history skills of visual, contextual and comparative analysis. You will develop research and writing skills. You will expand your knowledge of history, geography, politics, religion, languages, literature, as you explore the story of people as told through the art they created. AP Art History is a blended course, most of the content and resources are on Canvas.
Course Requirements:

Study: A quiet place to study every night. Stokstad History of Art (to be kept at home).

Technology: A computer with Internet access.

Materials:
-One (2.5”) 3-ring binder to store/organize your content area folders*
-Lined paper for note-taking
-Earbuds
* Large index cards for IDs & colored folders for each of the content areas are provided.

Expectations:
-Advanced Placement Art History courses require good study skills and commitment.
-Bring your charged laptop to class every day.
-Complete homework (usually 10-20 min. reading) every night.
-Research, take notes, participation in discussion.
-Demonstrate growth in visual literacy and writing skills over the course of the year.
-Write legibly.
-Utilize time effectively, keep your study material organized.
-Class attendance is crucial. If you are absent, you must make up missed work.

Exam and Fees
-The AP Art History exam is on Friday, May 8, 2020, - at 12 pm.
- The exam fee of $94.00, or a fee waiver, is due.
-We may have a fieldtrip to the Frist Centre for Visual Arts in Nashville; there may be a modest cost.
Advanced Placement Art History is a college-level course. Art history may broach subjects along the lines of religion, politics, war, or violence. At times, students will write essays on one, multiple, or all of those topics, in relation to the course. Throughout both “Western” and global or indigenous art, the human figure is depicted, clothed or unclothed. Students will watch films or film clips of a PG-13 rating throughout the year, as applicable to the course.
